Jewelry For Men

There are some men who can wear as much jewelry as they want to and get away with it: David Beckham and Mr T are the two who immediately spring to mind - one because he could wear a sack and still look like a model, and the other because he built his whole image on looking huge and ridiculous. Unless you fall into either category it's best to keep that old pearl of wisdom, 'less is more' in the forefront of your mind.

Being minimalist with jewelry is a statement in itself: it says you are sophisticated and stylish, but there is more to it than just wearing a little - it's still got to be good. A gold pinky ring with rubies or diamonds may be your only adornment but it still screams no. A simple ring, no flash or razzmatazz, on hands that have nicely trimmed nails can look very sexy - and masculine.

Necklaces for men have got to be right; the pendant that nestles on a hairy chest has become so stereotypically awful there's absolutely no need to mention it as a no-no. If you want more than a simple chain, something small and discreet will make a bigger statement. If you want something more casual, then go for small beads on a leather thong, but remember, you're jewelry is making a statement about you, so what you'd wear to the beach might not be the same as what you'd wear to the office.

Bracelets for men have come a very long way. Yes, you can still get traditional chain links, but why not take a look at the more contemporary designs that are now on the market. Not tied to the traditional gold or silver, many are chunky, stylish designs in stainless steel and as long as the bracelet doesn't clash with the watch, it can be very attractive. Remember that old adage, though, and only ever wear one.

A watch is something that most men wear, and because it's functional it's sometimes forgotten that it is also a piece of jewelry. Toting round your Bart Simpson timepiece isn't going to impress anyone really, well not in the way a watch should. You may not be able to afford a Gucci, but putting some thought into what you want your watch to say about you is important. If owning more than one is an option, then go for it - just remember to change them round to suit the occasion.

Earrings are an age thing. In the 90s every man alive had his ear pierced at least once. Trouble is, those same men are still wearing the same stud or sleeper they had then. It's time to lose them, permanently. Younger men can perhaps get away with an ear piercing, but by the time he leaves college, maybe it's time to think about letting it heal. This pretty much goes for all body piercings; there's a time and a place but it's got a very short shelf life.

Men wearing jewelry can look good, very good, but it's not just a case of throwing on the first thing that comes to hand; it should be chosen with care, and with the knowledge that whatever adornment you choose, it will speak volumes about you.
